The Rev. Matthew Frey

Assistant School and Church Chaplain

Appointed in 2008

I was attracted to St. George because of the relationship between the school and the church. I wanted to be a part of a team that seeks to support the mental, social, physical, and spiritual needs of young people (and their families), as they learn and grow.

I am happily married to Katharine and we came to Texas from Colorado via Pittsburgh (where we left our college-aged boys behind). I love to read and often have several books in different genres going at the same time (yes, comic books count as a genre). I enjoy spending time in the outdoors especially when it involves hiking, sailing, skiing (snow) or fishing.

As a chaplain, I have a passion for working to help children and families as they grow and learn together. I am full of awe, amazement, and gratitude for the gifts and talents that children and their families bring to this collaborative process we call education.

In addition to five years of ordained service in the Episcopal Church, I come with sixteen years of public school experience both as a classroom teacher and counselor at the elementary, middle and junior high school levels. I enjoy working with, and training adults and students in conflict/peer mediation.
